Nicholas Payton is one of the most influential trumpeters of his generation and has shaped countless musicians who followed him. Born in New Orleans, he is far more than a trumpet player: a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, and producer who consistently resists stylistic categorisation while remaining deeply rooted in the tradition of Black American Music. With more than twenty albums under his own name, Payton has continuously expanded his musical language, combining traditional and contemporary forms of expression and repeatedly pushing new boundaries. In his trio, he not only plays trumpet but also keyboards simultaneously — one of his signature traits. In Langnau, he is joined by his two outstanding collaborators Charlie Hunter on guitar and Greg Hutchinson on drums.
