Sponsorship award for young jazz talent

As part of its scholarship system the Swiss Jazz School Bern (SJS) organizes a musical contest. The contest is for young exceptionally talented musicians (up to and including 17 years old).The association of the Swiss Jazz School usually awards 3 sponsorships (total value: CHF 9’000.00) to contestants which show the most outstanding improvisational talent and have a solid instrumental training.

 

If divided between 3 students, the award is equivalent to:

Entire tuition for the 'regular course' (whole package) or the ‘preparatory course’ (40 min. private instrumental lesson, 120min theoretical class, 60 min. group workshop per week) at the SJS for 2 semesters.

 

Gymnasium Hofwil: for students which are part of the talent promotion program the award is equivalent to the parental contribution of max. 2 semesters.

 

The jury reserves the right to withhold any award or to divide an award between more than one competitor, based on the results of the competition. The jury’s decision is unimpeachable. The sponsorship can only be awarded once per person. The award can not be redeemed in cash and is valid until 2015.

 

Registration
If you would like to participate in the contest we ask you to register at the time of submitting your application for the JUNIOR JAZZ WORKSHOP. Deadline: applications can be handed in at the festival office (Viehmarktplatz) until Monday July 23rd/ 6pm.
Please note: the registration for the JUNIOR JAZZ WORKSHOP does not automatically include the registration for the contest! 

 

Procedure
During the workshop week, you will have the possibility to rehearse with a professional band.
Participants are required to perform two songs on the Viehmarktplatz in front of a live audience. The songs have to be of different styles, one of them an easy jazz standard. A jury of the Swiss Jazz School will be evaluating your performance.
